At the North Carolina Chamber, we consistently hear from our members that regulations at both the federal and state level are costly and burdensome. One unsettling refrain I’ve heard too often is, “I could not start my business today with the level of regulation.” Our annual CEO Poll indicates that North Carolina job creators increasingly find the regulatory environment a hindrance to growth.

While there has been significant progress at the state level over the past few years, there is more work to be done in this area and the NC Chamber remains committed to cutting through unnecessary red tape to promote economic growth.

Currently in North Carolina, statutes are in place that have not been reviewed or updated in more than 25 years, which continue to unnecessarily slow down public and private construction projects and cost business time and money. This lengthy review process exposes business projects – that have already received federal approval – to frivolous lawsuits aimed at tying up job creation and capital investment projects. It is also important to note that the state review process does not provide increased environmental protection. It is simply a process for state construction. We will fight to remove the duplicative process at the state level and advance commonsense regulations that don’t put jobs at risk.

In the 2015 Legislative Session, the NC Chamber continues to make increased regulatory efficiency a priority in order to increase North Carolina’s competitiveness for economic growth and job creation.
