New Broadband Economy for North Carolina

In a recent article on WRAL TechWire, Joe Freddoso, CEO of MCNC, discusses the present and future importance of North Carolina’s broadband infrastructure. Freddoso points to North Carolina Vision 2030 and the NC Chamber’s focus on North Carolina building and maintaining world-class critical infrastructures, including broadband.

One of the four “Pillars of a Secure Future”, outlined in North Carolina Vision 2030, is Infrastructure and Growth Leadership. Part of this pillar is ensuring our state is equipped with effective economic development strategies and tools to ensure our physical infrastructure will meet the state’s future needs. An important component of the state’s infrastructure is our high-speed broadband. According to Freddoso, “Better broadband access is fundamental in 2013 and will be even more critical in 2030 for accelerated economic development, for better access to education, for improved health care, and for greater economic vitality.” He goes on to say, “MCNC is ready to help communities and providers develop their strategies and work together to implement them. If we all can work together, North Carolina can add the ‘Fast Broadband State’ to its ‘Good Roads State’ moniker.” Read the full article here.
