NC Higher Ed Packs Economic Punch

| Education & Workforce Development

Education and Talent Supply is one of the pillars of a secure future in the North Carolina Chamber’s North Carolina Vision 2030. Higher education is an integral part of that pillar and our state’s world-class higher education institutions play a clear and critical role in economic and talent development. A study released this week measured this economic impact showing that higher education as a whole in North Carolina had a $63.5 billion impact on the state’s economy in 2012-13. The analysis is the first to measure the statewide impact of the UNC system, the state’s community colleges and the 36 private colleges in North Carolina.

We are particularly encouraged by the focus on workforce development. North Carolina’s public and private institutions continue to bring value to our state’s businesses and industries which need and rely on our institutions to produce talent, create jobs, and drive entrepreneurship and innovation. The Higher Education Foundation, funded by business, was a major investor in this project. The North Carolina Chamber is pleased to support the findings of this study as we work together with our higher education system to secure North Carolina’s future. Read more here.
