NC Chamber Supports Machelle Sanders to Lead NC Department of Administration

| Labor & Workplace

The N.C. Department of Administration might not grab many news headlines compared to other state agencies. But as the business manager for North Carolina’s government – the department oversees a broad range of operations from building construction and purchasing and contracting for goods and services to the management of state vehicles and maintenance of state-owned properties – it is certainly one of the most important.

Recently, Gov. Roy Cooper tapped Machelle Sanders, former vice president of manufacturing and general manager for NC Chamber member Biogen’s operations in Research Triangle Park, to serve as the new N.C. Department of Administration Secretary. In a statement released yesterday, NC Chamber President and CEO Lew Ebert announced our organization’s support for this smart selection by Gov. Cooper.

“Machelle Sanders has a long passion for public service,” Lew stated. “A proven leader known for her motivating approach, Machelle’s eye for operations will be a valuable asset in making the Department of Administration function effectively and efficiently.”

The NC Chamber had previously announced our support for another of Gov. Cooper’s cabinet-level appointees after he announced that Major General Jim Trogdon, an individual with decades of experience on transportation issues, would be called on to serve our state as the new N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary. We look forward to working with these and other leaders in state government to keep North Carolina moving forward in 2017.
