NC Chamber Signs On to Protect Medicare Advantage Program

| Labor & Workplace

More than 3.3 million American retirees receive insurance coverage from their employers through a Medicare Advantage Employer Group Waiver Plan (MA-EGWP), a type of plan that allows job creators to offer comprehensive coverage for their Medicare-eligible retirees at a lower cost than many alternative options. Recently, however, federal leaders have proposed a number of harmful changes in methodology and rate reductions for MA-EGWP’s that could cut seniors’ benefits and limit access to these plans for providers.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers are leading America’s job creators in a national fight to protect Medicare Advantage. In support of that effort, the NC Chamber recently signed on to a joint letter urging U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell to reverse the proposed changes that would threaten the effectiveness of this important health care program and potentially disrupt coverage for millions of Americans. In addition, the NC Chamber has added its support to the Coalition to Save Medicare Advantage Retiree Coverage, a broader effort committed to advancing and protecting Medicare Advantage for retirees.

As you know, healthy levels of predictability and choice in the health care landscape translate to fewer dollars spent on health care coverage by North Carolina businesses. As the NC Chamber continues to fight for effective health care solutions for job creators at the state level, we will also keep you updated on our efforts to support commonsense health care solutions at the federal level.
