| Infrastructure

We were encouraged by Governor Cooper’s appointment of Major General Jim Trogdon as Secretary of the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and are pleased that the NC Senate confirmed his nomination yesterday.

From a career in military to state government spanning multiple decades, including serving as the NCDOT’s chief operating officer and as director of Strategic Transportation Planning for the General Assembly, there’s no question that Secretary Trogdon possess the necessary credentials to lead North Carolina’s transportation into the future. In a statement released upon his appointment to the post, NC Chamber president and CEO Lew Ebert praised the secretary’s record: “Jim Trogdon has a thorough understanding of commerce and freight movement in North Carolina. His decades of experience position him well to lead on a critical piece of our state’s infrastructure during a time of tremendous growth.”

As North Carolina’s growth continues to boom, it is imperative that the development of our transportation and infrastructure capacity keeps pace. By 2030, it is anticipated that two million more North Carolinians will move to the Tar Heel state. As such, we need leadership that will ensure North Carolina continues to make the crucial transportation and infrastructure investments necessary to prepare for the future. The NC Chamber looks forward to working closely with Secretary Trogdon, as we believe he has the expertise to lead this important function of our state’s economy. For details on the NC Chamber’s 2017 transportation priorities, contact the NC Chamber’s director of governmental affairs, Jake Cashion.

The NC Chamber is also excited to host Secretary Trogdon at our 2017 Transportation and Infrastructure Conference on April 18 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center in Durham, N.C. Secretary Trogdon will join other leaders in transportation to discuss the status and economic impact of monumental projects that will surely shape North Carolina’s future in transportation and infrastructure.
