As I updated you last week, the Senate and House members have been working to reconcile their versions of Senate Bill 812 and House Bill 1061 in a conference committee. Yesterday the conferees came to an agreement and signed a conference report that takes significant steps to maintaining higher standards for K-12 education in the Tar Heel state. While we continue to review the conference report in full, we applaud this reasonable approach to make standards higher, as our top priority is pushing for the absolute best academic standards for the state.
The North Carolina Chamber remains committed to high levels of learning that prepare each student with critical thinking and problem solving skills for the workplaces of tomorrow. We will continue to keep you updated on the status of this legislation as it now heads back to the full General Assembly for consideration.
