The Big Problem Long-Term

| Infrastructure

With status quo funding, North Carolina will not be able to maintain and improve the safety and efficiency of our transportation network. There have been countless studies documenting North Carolina’s transportation needs and funding crisis. We can’t afford to wait any longer.

Transportation revenues will begin declining in 2018 – only three years away. As the graph displays, federally-mandated CAFE standards require 50 miles to the gallon by 2025, generating less transportation revenue. While greater fuel efficiency is a positive and we support innovation in this area, we still need to make up those lost funds to address deficient and decaying roads and bridges and improve our infrastructure system for the future. Learn more here.

North Carolina must be proactive by taking action today to create a stable, diversified and economically efficient revenue model that will meet the demands of our network and ensure the safety of our roads and bridges.

The NC Chamber is working with an expanding coalition to advance comprehensive solutions around this critical issue. Join your voice with Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, American Airlines and other members of the Coalition for a Prosperous Future today – contact Jake Cashion.
