Today’s employers are ever more aware of the need for effective education systems at all levels to ensure students are prepared for the 21st-century global marketplace. On Tuesday, the North Carolina Chamber attended a press conference to support business leaders, and North Carolina Common Core Coalition members, in their call for support of North Carolina’s Common Core State Standards. At the press conference, America’s Edge, the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, TradeMark Properties, Wake Education Partnership and SAS voiced their support of career and college ready standards as the high bar we must attain to prepare our current generation of students for the jobs of tomorrow.

The News and Observer editorial board wrote today about the needed support from the business community. The article responds to criticism, as business leaders have done, “that the Common Core is common sense. The nation’s school systems need to do a better job of preparing students for college and for increasingly complex jobs that require a solid foundation in math and English.” Business has been adamant that career and college ready standards are crucial to achieving the best workforce in the world. The North Carolina Chamber remains committed to the sound implementation of these higher standards throughout the state.
